Hello Members,
Summer will be here before we know it! The Swimming Hole is in a great spot as we head into Summer 2024, and your Board is excited to share the following updates with you.
Membership
Members often ask about membership data, so here are some insights. Our number of memberships remains consistent with prior recent years. Roughly 330 members make up our organization again for the 2024 season. Hundreds of families remain on our Waitlist. The number of resignations received this year are consistent with the normal annual turnover of roughly 10%.
Finances
Ninety percent (90%) of members paid Annual Dues invoices on time. Your volunteer Board thanks you so very much for your attention to your payables and your willingness to pay online through bank draft. Our member-owned-&-operated organization has now successfully transitioned away from antiquated, time-consuming, unsecure financial means of operating! Thank you!
Overdue invoices for Annual Dues were assessed the $50 Late Fee explained on the original invoice and in subsequent reminders. The members who do not handle payables within the 15-day grace period forfeit their membership to the next family on our Waitlist per our ByLaws. We hope this does not happen to anyone, and we are making every attempt to avoid such an unfortunate situation including phone calls & texts.
Lastly, and importantly, based on the information we have today, we remain on track financially for the 2024 Season and beyond. Our forecasted budget is matching up with actuals. Nothing about our planned future capital spending is causing us pause at the moment.
Youth Swim Team
Thank you to those who responded to our initial interest survey! The results are in and they show an overwhelming interest in the swim team. While we wish we could accommodate every kid at the Swimming Hole, it is necessary for safety that we cap the team at 45 swimmers. For this reason, we have made the decision to register only swimmers ages 7 and older at this time. If you have a 5/6 year old who is ready to join the team, he or she may be added to our waitlist and will be given priority should there be open spots on the team once initial registration is completed.
Registration for the 2024 season will begin for returning swimmers on Monday, April 15 and open to new families on Monday, April 23. We ask that prior to registering, you read through our Parent Letter to find more detailed information about expectations, schedules and fees.
Masters Swim Team
How exciting to see so much interest in Storm Masters! At this time we are still working with our pool management group on staffing a potential morning Open Swim. We expect they will let us know if they can fulfill our request once lifeguard staff for the summer has been finalized. Look for an update in next months’ newsletter.
Landscaping
The County has assured the Board that our Town has jurisdiction over our various planned projects from landscaping to future capital expenditures related to the Reimagine Project. Our Town has now approved Phase 1 of our Landscaping Plan where we begin to enhance the membership experience through new plantings, as well as treat our property as we believe good neighbors should.
Expect to see Phase 1 work begin in early April and be completed well before our pool opens. Remember, this is only Phase 1 of 2. Phase 2 gets executed after construction related to the Reimagine Project this fall.
LifeGuards
We seem to have solved the lifeguard shortage issue that so plagued our efforts in year’s past. If your daughter or son is looking to be a part of the team working for our 3rd party provider, please have him/her contact Aquatic Management of Charlotte. Find more information on our website.
Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm. Here’s to a fantastic 2024 season at The Swimming Hole!
Thank you,
Glenn Prillaman
Board President
